Past... Present... Future..
1997: Bears of Turkey got established.
1998: First gathering was in September which was announced to the world on Bears' Mailing List.
1998: There were two gatherings.
1999: there were 6.
2000, February: We got our own domain name, ayilar.net.
2000, March: Gatherings got better shape. They turned into two or more days events from just a few hours events took place in Istanbul.
2000, April: Almost everyone on Earth heard that BoT exists. Thanks to government officers who ban our trip to Turkish wrestling event, Kirkpinar. This was the biggest GLBT news in Turkey. It also made BoT accepted in Turkish GLBT community, we started to get invites for every GLBT event.
2000, May: BoT events got better with more fun stuff and programme.
2000, June: Announcements were made to cancel both Kirkpinar and Ayistos international events due to heavy media pressure.
2000, September: The world heard about us again. Thanks again to government officers who turn hundreds of gay tourists back to their ship on their way to Ephesus by depending on a hidden government announcement about banning gay people to Kirkpinar and to Turkey. Later, these gay people were welcomed with red carpet and turkish delight in Istanbul.
2000: There were 9 BoT events. Started a series of trips in Turkey to meet local bears.
2001, February: "Bear Book II" by Les Wright appeared on the shelves with an article about Turkey and BoT.
2001, September: First "Bear Night" party was organized in September to raise money for AIDS victims/HIV+ people.
2001: The year was closed with 6 events.
2002, March: Ron Suresha's "Bears on Bears" published. We were in the section about International bears
2002, October: BoT has started a project for friends, families and relatives of GLBT people. But, this project was a failure as we could make the activities continue.
2002: Closed the year with 6 events. Took part in every GLBT event in Turkey including a march for GLBT rights and a stand in a festival.
2003: After deciding to renew the group itself and its events, BoT decided to held 4 events a year, one for each season.
2004: A silent year with 4 events.
2005: Changed its emblem.
2005: BoT decided to open one of its 4 events to everyone in Turkey a year and go international. "Bearada" was the first international event which was held in September. The money raised had given to an organization for HIV+ people.
2006: By the first minute of the year, BoT started an online monthly e-magazine named "BEaRGi", which has a gay/bear lifestyle perspective.
